We love Animal Kingdom and specifically the Kilimanjaro Safari ride, so Wild Africa Trek was our perfect opportunity to get a little closer and personal with he animals.
The tour started at the meeting point just outside the entrance to the Kilimanjaro Safari ride, here we checked our bags, met our guides and got kitted up in the harnesses. Due to the nature of the trip we were asked to locker all personal items apart from our hats, sunglasses, Gopro and SLR camera all of which we were allowed to take on the provision they remained clipped to us at all times. It was at this point we also received our complementary gift of a tour branded reusable water bottle, which was a pleasant surprise as we were not aware of this.
The 3 hour tour included an up close and personal visit with the Hippos, a nerve racking bridge crossing over the crocodiles before boarding a transport to traverse the open savanna. Part way around the savanna we stopped at the lodge to enjoy an African inspired snack, which was beautifully presented and included a nice variety of food and POG juice to drink. The view from here was spectacular with plenty of wildlife spotting, it was wonderful to just sit there relax and take it all in. Throughout the whole tour you feel like part of the shop as you watch the normal safari trucks going round on their normal route whilst you travel on the off beaten track.
You really did get close and personal to the hippos & crocodiles, standing on ledges and bridges overlooking the enclosures. During the tour we got a whole new appreciation for these magnificent creatures. The guides were extremely knowledgeable and took the time to discuss and answer any questions we and at no point did we feel rushed.
From the complementary photo service we came home with approximately 100 photos. We were given a card with a website and code for access later that day.
Disney recommend booking in advance this can be done online, via phone or in person at Animal Kingdom, we did the latter booking early in our holiday for our additional Animal Kingdom day. This worked very well for us, we were also lucky enough to be the only visitors on our specific tour.
Overall we really enjoyed this tour and would recommend it for any animal or animal kingdom fan, one this to be aware of is the tour goes rain or shine so be prepared for the unpredictable Florida weather if going on an afternoon tour.
