Whilst the theme parks are a highlight of any stay at Palm Tree Villa it can be equally enjoyable to slow the pace and explore a more local side of Florida. One of our favourite days away from the parks is a morning to early afternoon visit to Winter Garden a charming historic town that offers a very different atmosphere from the main attractions.
Downtown Winter Garden
At the heart of Winter Garden is its vibrant downtown area centred on Plant Street. This is where you will find the popular Winter Garden Farmers Market held every Saturday morning from 8am to 1pm. It is a wonderful place to browse fresh local produce artisanal foods handmade crafts and unique gifts while enjoying live music and a friendly community atmosphere. It is well worth arriving early as the market is extremely popular with both locals and visitors.
A short stroll from the market you will find the Winter Garden Heritage Museum and Visitors’ Center. This welcoming and well presented museum offers a fascinating overview of the town’s history from its early citrus roots through to its development into the vibrant community it is today. Interactive exhibits historic photographs and local stories make it an engaging stop for all ages and the Visitors’ Center is also an excellent place to pick up maps local tips and recommendations.
Food lovers should make time for a visit to The Hangry Bison a much loved local restaurant known for its gourmet burgers and creative comfort food. With a relaxed casual setting and bold flavours it makes an ideal lunch stop after exploring the market or strolling through town. Booking is not essential but to avoid a potential wait we would recommended booking especially at weekends.
For guests with an interest in history the Central Florida Railroad Museum offers an insight into the area’s railway heritage. Housed in a beautifully restored historic depot the museum tells the story of how the railroad shaped Winter Garden and the surrounding communities. It is a small but engaging stop that fits perfectly into an easygoing day out.

Winter Garden is also a must visit for Disney pin trading enthusiasts as it is home to GoPinPro HQ. Well known within the Disney pin trading community for their high quality Pinfolio products GoPinPro has become a destination in its own right. If pin trading is part of your holiday fun this is a unique stop that you will not find close to the main attractions.
An Easy Trip from Palm Tree Villa
Winter Garden is approximately 14 miles from Palm Tree Villa making it an easy drive of around 25 minutes. It is an excellent choice for guests looking to enjoy something authentic relaxed and completely different from the parks. With its markets museums excellent food and specialist shopping Winter Garden offers a refreshing change of pace and a memorable addition to your stay at Palm Tree Villa.
